Using Songs to Understand Literary Devices

Most of us agree that songs are a unique style of poetry. Songs share literary devices used often to interpret poetry, such as caesura, enjambment, internal rhyme, and rhyming -- as well as others like personification, conflict, metaphor, simile, extended metaphor, hyperbole, understatement, paradox, irony, aphorism, and repetition. Of course, we're not limited to these few.

See if you can identify the literary devices present in the following songs. You may be surprised just how many there are in each song!
